Myself Included

Myself Included Myself Included Myself Included By Maeve Maddox A peruser questions my utilization of the expression â€Å"myself included† in the accompanying concentrate from a post on who versus that: Numerous speakers, myself notwithstanding, feel that who is typically the principal decision when the forerunner is human, yet perceive that its utilization is an expressive decision and not a matter of rule. Once in a while that might be the better decision. Says the peruser: I’m pondering about your utilization of ‘myself’. I would have accepted it ought to be ‘me included’. Or then again have I misjudged the reflexive pronouns? I’m inquisitive on the grounds that it’s one of my annoyances when somebody closes an email with ‘if you have any inquiries, you can allude to myself.’ The peruser has not misconstrued the general principles for the reflexive pronouns. 1. A reflexive pronoun is utilized as an immediate article when the item is equivalent to the subject of the action word: â€Å"I cut myself shaving again.† 2. The reflexive pronoun is utilized as a circuitous item when the aberrant article is equivalent to the subject of the action word: â€Å"She got herself another car.† 3. The reflexive pronoun is utilized as the object of a relational word when the article alludes to the subject of the statement: â€Å"My child constructed our deck by himself.† Note: The expression â€Å"by + reflexive pronoun† shows that somebody accomplished something alone and additionally with no assistance. A similar importance is passed on when the reflexive pronoun alone is put toward the finish of a sentence: â€Å"I heated all the treats myself.† 4. The reflexive pronoun is utilized to underscore the individual or thing alluded to: â€Å"The restricting itself is worth  £50.† Note: This utilization of the reflexive pronoun is particularly basic when the individual alluded to is acclaimed or amazing: â€Å"The Queen herself composed a note of sympathy to her butler.† The most widely recognized mistakes made with reflexive pronouns are the sort the peruser alludes to, the utilization of a reflexive pronoun when the setting requires a plain close to home pronoun: Inaccurate: If you have any inquiries, you can allude to myself. Right: If you have any inquiries, you can allude to me. The mistake here is utilizing a reflexive pronoun as the object of a relational word that doesn't allude to the subject of the provision (you). Other regular mistakes incorporate the accompanying: Erroneous: Jack and myself made a trip to Greece this mid year. Right: Jack and I made a trip to Greece this mid year. The mistake is in utilizing the reflexive pronoun as the subject of an action word. Erroneous: When you give out the presents, don’t overlook Margie and myself. Right: When you give out the presents, don’t overlook Margie and me. The mistake here is utilizing reflexive myself as the object of the action word overlook. Despite the fact that the expressions â€Å"myself included† or â€Å"including myself†seem to challenge the principles they have delighted in a long history of utilization by respectable authors. The Ngram Viewer shows that â€Å"including myself† is definitely more typical than â€Å"including me† in printed books. A Web scan for â€Å"including me† brings 617,000 outcomes; â€Å"including myself† brings 3,890,000 outcomes. An article by etymologist James Harbeck records fourteen instances of special cases to the standards. Here are three of them: You appear to be a superior rendition of myself. (object of relational word) There are two others here other than myself. (object of relational word) Myself, as executive here, will cut the lace. (subject of sentence) Once in a while â€Å"including me† is the conspicuous decision, yet in different settings, an author may incline toward â€Å"including myself.† Compare: Everybody got a rich blessing, including me. Numerous researchers, including myself, found the film ridiculous in its errors. The best guidance about the utilization of reflexive pronouns is to ace the standards, however to stay mindful that occasionally â€Å"nonstandard† myself might be more colloquial than me. â€Å"If you have any inquiries, you can allude to myself† is verifiably nonstandard, yet in settings in which a speaker or author is upholding a sentiment shared by others, â€Å"myself included† and â€Å"including myself† are built up colloquialisms. Question: Talk about theWorking with Community for Stonewall Gay Campaign. Answer: The three sorts of network fill in as talked about by Rothman and Tropman incorporate regional, all out and specifically. To me, the regional network work claims more than the other two. This is on the grounds that completely and specifically accomplished network work, are alluded to the undertaking of working with a particular gathering and in a field of a specific theme separately, however this isn't the equivalent with the regional network work. Regional people group work alludes to the work which is finished by the network laborers situated in a particular region alongside various gatherings of the populace. The two of the principle errands of a regional network specialist are advancement (invigorating and empowering new tasks) and to help the gatherings, networks and boards. The regional network laborers give a wide range of help to the neighborhood networks including key help, hierarchical help, encouraging help and instructive help also (Rothman, 1995). With the equivalent, th ey energize the individuals and engage them for doing the things for their own improvement. Thus their primary job is fixated on assisting the individuals to construct the feeling of self-assurance, with developing gifts and to learn new information and abilities. The regional network specialist go about as a challenger, designer, coordinator, supporter and a backer, all simultaneously. In this specific circumstance, I will expand on the Stonewall Gay Campaign. The point of the battle is changing the perspectives of the individuals towards the idea of homosexuality. It point is to get lesser homophobic individuals towards it (Shragge, 2003). Besides, it is a crusade that is planning to get individuals quit utilizing the term gay as a word to affront others. It centers around bringing issues to light among the individuals about the way that being a gay or a gay is OK and that it isn't about pessimism. As written in the article of The Guardian, Stonewall has impacted the general public in a positive manner by battling and campaigning. The Movie Adaptation The Scarlet Letter - Free Essay Example

There have been many on-screen movie adaptations that are based on novels from the past. A great example of this would be The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The novel was written in 1850 and progressed the career of Nathaniel Hawthorne who lived in Salem, Massachusetts at the time. The movie adaptation was released in 1995 and stars Demi Moore as Hester Prynne, alongside some other award-winning actors, such as Gary Oldman and Robert Duvall. There were alterations made to the onscreen version that changed how the book and movie was portrayed, including: the time frame in which both begin are completely different starting points, the person narrating the tales are different, and the ending in the movie is dramatically different than the novels ending. Movies makers tend to emphasize or change parts of a novel to make it more exciting and relatable to the viewers, which is exactly what was done to this great American classic. One of the main examples of change is noticed in the very beginning. The setting of the book begins at the prison doors where the town folk are awaiting the door to open, so Hester Prynne can make her way to the scaffold with her small infant child named Pearl that was a product of an affair she had with an unknown man. In the movie, it shows Hesters arrival in town while she is in the process of setting up the house while she awaits her husband to join her. It shows everything that happened leading up to the love affair between Hester and Reverend Dimmsdale such as their meeting for the first time, falling in love, and the act of the affair itself. While reading the book you do not get the backstories for the main two characters. All the reader knows is Hester is in prison with a child that was born because of an adulterous act, hence where the Scarlet Letter stitched to her bodice came from. In the movie it adds depth and more pieces to the story and helps with character understand ing. Another way the movie adaptation changed things to the story was to change the narrator. The book presents an unknown narrator. It could be a member of the clergy. It could be a random town person. The book never reveals by whom the narration derives from. The movie adaptation has Pearl doing the narration from her point of view. She tells the story through her eyes and her knowledge comes from stories her mother (Hester Prynne) told her. It gives a deeper insight of how hard this little girls life was with a mother who was permanently on display for giving into ten and love. The movie is better for it and gives the viewer a better relatability to Pearl. It makes the narrator an actual known person, so the narration is a bigger part of the story. The viewer has a better connection with Pearl because of this change. Although some changes are subtle and help with the understanding of a book or movie, the ending to the book and movie are completely different and go on a new path entirely. The changes to the end of the book are not needed but does add a bit of dramatical flare to the movie. Moviegoers like to have a happier ending if the story is one of darkness, sin, and guilt. This movie takes care of that for most. In the book the story ends with Hester trying to get away from Chillingsworth on a ship departing for England, but she is kept from doing so because he catches her. She stays in town and the Reverend gives his Election day sermon. After he does this he makes his way to the scaffold to proclaim the truth, with Hester, Pearl, and Chillingsworth. Right after he does this he passes away. In the movie, however, the ending is quite different because it has action and a happy ending for Hester and Dimmsdale, along with their child Pearl. In the end Chillsworth has killed a character named Brewster, after mistaking him for the reverend. When he finds out he hangs himself in his room. As Hester is about to be hung because of acts of heresy, the reverend interrupts her hanging proclaiming his love for her. The town thinks that the Indians killed Brewster because of the way he was killed and locks up all the Indians in the village. A massive battle comes from the Indians that have come to free their brothers. During the fight Hester, Dimmsdale and Pearl flee from the battle, while later leaving the town in hopes of a new life. Pearl says that her father passed before she reached her teens, which is completely different than the book. In the book there was no quarrel with the Indians, or any reason for them to attack the town. With all the differences in the ending, between the book and movie adaptation, you can understand why the movie was considered a free adaptation based on the characters of the book. With the book being such an American classic from one of the greatest authors of our time, and with the movie being so freely adapted to the novel, there were many changes that viewers noticed. But these three stood out the most for viewers that had read the book. Some changes were great and added character backstories and gave us another reason to become connected with Pearl, but some changes were bad. The ending changed when it did not need to be changed, but it does not take away from the story. It just gives it a happy ending, whereas the book gives us a depressing ending to Dimmsdale. Over all, both versions of the story are entertaining, understandable and relatable to most.

Structural, Conflict, And Interactionists Perspectives Essay

A. Three of the most widely used theoretical approaches used by sociologists are the functionalist, conflict, and interactionists perspectives. Functionalists highlight the contributions made by society that lead to social stability. Talcott Parsons, a key figure in the development of functionalist theory, viewed society as of a vast network of connected parts, each of which helps to maintain the system as a whole (Schaefer 2015). Conflict theorists take the approach that social behavior is understood in terms of tension between competing groups over power or the allocation of resources. Interactionist explain society by generalizing about the everyday forms of social interaction in places such as work, parks, or in public places. Functionalist and conflict approaches to the study of society focus on large scale phenomena or entire civilizations, or macrosociology, while the interactionist approach focuses on microsociology which stresses the study of small groups (Schaefer 2015). Fu nctionalists reason that individuals are socialized to perform certain societal functions. However, conflict theorists consider that individuals are socialized by power of authoritative groups. In the interactionist view, individuals are shaped by their everyday interaction within small groups. Social order is maintained through cooperation and overall consensus in the functionalist’s perspective; laws are created to reinforce social order. Similarly, interactionists believe social order isShow MoreRelatedSociological Perspectives On Social Networking Sites916 Words   |  4 PagesSociological Perspectives Social networking sites - such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and, Pinterest, just to name a few - provide individuals with an online web of global networking that allows maintaining social ties with one another. Similarities And Differences Between The Southern And...

In the late 1700’s, dozens of historians learned about events and forces that drove many colonial people to an armed rebellion. Among the patriots and economic determinists, fundamental agreement prevails, and the immediate cause is The American Revolution. Although the people of the colonies all lived in the same country, there were many similarities and differences between the southern and northern colonies, such as religion, economics, politics and governments. During the Revolution, there were thirteen different colonies, and when talked about they were divided into three different geographical locations, northern, middle and southern. The Northern region, also known as, the New England colonies, consisted of Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Southern colonies consisted of Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. â€Å"In the old colonial system a colony was to be a colony in the most obvious sense of the word: a perpetually subordinate agricultural and extractive area that served the mother country as a source of raw materials, a safety valve for excess or unwanted population, and a market for finished goods.† During the seventeenth and eighteenth century, mercantilism played a major role throughout the colonies. Essay about Constitutional Republic - 784 Words

Constitutional Republic Between 1787 and 1791 the Framers of the US Constitution established a system of government upon principles that had been discussed and partially implemented in many countries over the course of several centuries, but never before in such a pure and complete design, which we call a constitutional republic. Since then, the design has often been imitated, but important principles have often been ignored in those imitations, with the result that their governments fall short of being true republics or truly constitutional. The Framers of the Constitution tried very hard to design a system that would not allow any one person or group within the government to gain too much power. Personally, I think they†¦show more content†¦If the President is suspected of unlawful acts, he can be impeached, or tried by the Senate for misusing his power. The Senate has the sole power to try all impeachments. If he is found guilty, he can be punished but his sentence can be no more than being thrown out of office and being forbidden to hold any government office. Furthermore, if the President wants to spend money, his request must pass through Congress, since it has control over spending. Lastly, Congress can re-pass a bill that was vetoed by the President. Congress also has checks and balances against itself. The President can veto a bill from Congress, and although Congress can override a veto, obtaining a two-thirds vote to do so is very difficult. Public speeches by the President may also concern the public with an issue, putting pressure on Congress to act upon it. The Judicial branch exerts control over the other two by deciding whether or not actions made by the President or Congress, i.e., laws are constitutional. The limitations on and difficulties of passing laws are very, very important. The split legislature creates a more complicated maze through which laws must find their way before being passed. First, a law must be introduced in either the House of Representatives or the Senate, the former having sole power to introduce laws concerning revenue. After the law is introduced, it must be approved by the other house, who may agree with, amend, or discard the law. Theater Review First Date Essay Example For Students

Theater Review First Date Essay I attended â€Å"First Date† the evening of June 18th at the Hobby Center in Downtown Houston, which was held at 7:30 p. m. This play was shown from June 11 – June 21 in the TUTS Underground / Zilkha Hall. There were approximately 150 people who attended the play that night. Surprisingly to me, the crowd ages ranged from those in their thirties to fifties. The author wrote this play to lighten the concept of first dates, in this case it was a blind date. Nervousness always occurs on any type of date, but more so on a blind date. Cassie was a serial-dater and Aaron was new to the dating scene. This is almost the case with any date. They were successful with the production because they made it funny, but equal to what happens in real life on dates. The play was produced for entertainment of young adults who are in the dating scene. A scene would start with the characters talking and then turn into singing and/or dancing. Sometimes it was an individual, then maybe a couple and a few times they did all of this as a whole group. You could say there was a little education in the play because it teaches us to be open to things we aren’t usually open to. The play was full of good music, singing, acting, laughter and lighting. The character were in normal clothes for being on a date or working at the bar. They definitely fit the scene. They all had great voices when singing was involved in a scene. Cassie for sure had the strongest voices of them all! Each scene had perfect lighting, from individuals ones where the spot light was on that actor, to groups scenes that had different colored lights with effects when dancing. The production had many good acting moments, but my favorite was when Aaron showed his sensitive and emotional side with him mother who passed. The whole play was upbeat and funny, but I like that he was able to turn it to a different direction. He was able to show Cassie a different side to him and I think that is made her more attracted to him. I really can’t complain about any not-so-good acting moments. If I had to critique anything, it would be the bartender’s role. I thought at times he was a little too corny. It was like his role tried too hard to be a part of the production. This was my very first theatre show to ever attend and I was a little hesitate to be honest because I didn’t know what to expect. I brought my mom with me and I was very impressed with the production because it had a combination of acting, dancing and singing. It was something that many people can relate to now days. Overall, First Date was a fun, affordable and a night well spent for entertainment. The actors were so talented, they were able to play different characters during the production. This was my first play to attend and I liked it so much that I plan on going to see more of them around the Houston area in the future.

Happy 🙂 The sun is smiling as its rays of warmth stretch out and cover my entire body while I lay as one with the freshly cut grass. The scent of clean, crisp grass fills my nostrils. It smells like the fresh vegetables my mom cuts from her garden and washes in the sink. As she washes, all the dirt escapes from the outer skin setting free the crisp, natural aroma. My pores begin to perspirate, for the warm rays take no prisoners. The wet droplets trickle down my face as if racing one another to see which one can cross the finish line first without being absorbed into my lips and trapped in the many curves of my face. The cool breeze is my savior as it dries my body and tosses my wavy blonde hair. I inhale only to be filled with the aroma of hamburgers being cooked on the grill. It smells smoky and rough, almost chokingly thick but at the same time it smells juicy and mouth-watering as the scent of hamburgers take over. As I lay there enjoying the summer heat, my eardrums suddenly ring with the sound of falling pill bottles crashing to the wood floor inside the house. We still ache fiercely with love, lust, loyalty, and passion. And we still perceive the world, in all its gushing beauty and terror, right on our pulses. There is no other way. To begin to understand the gorgeous fever that is consciousness, we must try to understand the senses. (Ackerman xix) Scared 😠® My legs shake as I stand in the kitchen staring at my mom. Tears start knocking down the wall as I get tired of trying to hold it up, they start escaping, conquering my face and making my breaths uneven. My eyes are blurry and my world is spinning on a fast carousel and I can’t get off. As I try to breathe through my nose, I can smell the salty, bitter aroma of my tears. As I try again, the scent of the cookout and the grass are gone; all I can smell is the burning bread in the oven, it smells like death as the smoky cloud makes it hard to breath. The harsh, toxic aroma makes me lose my breath for a few seconds. My mom tries to talk but can only form her mouth to make moaning, painful sounds. Soon she can’t move and collapses onto the nearby wall. She loses control of her facial muscles as well as the rest of her body. All I can do is stand there and cry. Let me off this ride. Breaths come in pairs, except at two times in our lives- the beginning and the end. At birth, we inhale for the first time; at death, we exhale for the last. (Ackerman 6) Sad 🙠 It came to me then as I waited in the so called ‘waiting room’ that it can happen to me. I’m here. I thought I would never have to step foot in this calm but chaotic building. It reeks of cleaning products and plastic. It smells as if I had just walked into a room full of plastic containers and 409 bottles. As I looked around, all eyes were on the ground. The door opens and my legs are shaking as I search for the strength to take another step. As I see her laying there helpless, I feel the tears fighting one another to see who would be first to be born in my eyes and to soon die on my cheeks. There is no comfort as we wait for news, only the feeling of the spinning carousel makes me feel human for I had been stuck on the elaborate, ceramic horse since the smell of burnt bread entered my nostrils. No one knows what’s wrong with her, at least that’s what they tell me, but the doctors know. My parents know. My sisters know. Just tell me s o I can stop spinning. Smells spur memories, but they also rouse our dozy senses, pamper and indulge us, help define our self-image, stir the cauldron of our seductiveness, warn us of danger, lead us into temptation, fan our religious fervor, accompany us to heaven, wed us to fashion, steep us in luxury. (Ackerman 37) Content : l Time. It’s the air I breathe, the sun that’s setting, the controller of life. Time decides when and if I will change, grow, or even live. Today, time is on my side. Today, time is on her side. Two years I have spent spinning. Two years speeding up and slowing down, not willing to leave this carousel where I feel at home. As I walk into my kitchen like every day before, I am not haunted by the scent of death burning in the oven. As I inhale deeper in search of the scent of burnt bread again, I am only filled with the sweet aroma of buttery biscuits growing and baking in that same oven, the creator of the horrible memories of that life changing, summer afternoon. Right as the home cooked aroma fills my nose, It seems to trickle down my body, warming every bone, muscle, and inch of my pale skin. The paleness of my skin retreats only to be replaced by the beautiful, sun-kissed color. I see my mom’s lips move, forming words of truth, words that explain wh at’s wrong. The answer to my long awaited question is reveled, and suddenly I stop. My body feels at peace, at rest. The ceramic horses have stopped their repetition. Time is cruel, but today, time is on my side. My legs are shaking as I find the strength to step off, to leave what I’m used to. It’s deja vu as I step off the carousel and into my mother’s hospital room but this time, it’s ok. She’s ok. It’s not too late, all I have is time. What is most amazing is not how our senses span distance or cultures, but how they span time. Our senses connect us intimately to the past, connect us in ways that most of our cherished ideas never could. (Ackerman xvi) Works Cited Ackerman, Diane. A Natural History of the Senses. Opening a Door to a New Life free essay sample

Throughout my life doors of opportunity have opened then slammed shut, but I have found the keys to open them again. Door one: A world of different culture. Since I grew up as an Americanized Chinese girl, I haven’t been exposed to Chinese culture as much; however, taking Chinese and starting a Chinese club at my high school brought me closer to understanding it. But I seek more than this. I want to go back to the Republic of China with my mom and speak to our family in their native language. I want to talk to them without a translator, understand them when they talk to me, and connect with the family I barely know. I don’t want to lose this and be locked out. I want to major in east Asian studies so I can be closer to this world. I will pry this door open. Door two: A world of adventure. We will write a custom essay sample on Opening a Door to a New Life or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I want to explore and discover new passions as well as reignite old ones. I scuba dove in the Florida Keys, drove through most of the United States, and skied through most of Wisconsin I want to be a Hoofer to further indulge myself in this world. I won’t let this door slam shut and cease my adventuring. I will become a nurse because every day would be a life of adventure. I refuse to sit in a cubicle and stare at a computer screen because I need to feel that adrenaline rush when I make a difference in someone’s life. UW Madison has one of the best nursing schools in the state. If I were to go here, it would benefit me greatly. I must kick this door down. Door Three: A world of music. In fifth grade, I learned how to play the Euphonium. When we moved to Florida I continued playing and enrolled in my first music competition. Even though my grandmother suffered from pancreatic cancer, she traveled from Wisconsin to be my accompanist. We received a high ranking and created something unforgettable. This was the last time she played piano before she lost her battle. The door began to close because I no longer had her, but I wouldn’t allow it. When we moved to Texas, I continued playing and made the top band and did the same when we moved back to Wisconsin. I had the privilege to spread music with my band in Washington, DC, Disney World and the Madison community as a UW Madison summer music clinic attendee. It is my dream to join the UW band program and open a door to more challenging music and memorable experiences. Even though the music door is open, I fear it will close if I don’t choose the right college. I can’t allow myself to be locked out. I will hold this door open until I cannot bare it anymore. Madison holds the keys to my doors as well new ones, and I will unlock them all.

Evaluating College and University Programs

Evaluating College and University ProgramsHow to evaluate a college is one of the first steps in assessing your own worth. In this article we're going to discuss how to determine if college is worth the cost. This type of evaluation involves a combination of factors, including the faculty, faculty performance, and academic resources available to students, the affordability of the course, the cost of the books and equipment needed for school, and the perceived value of the courses. We'll take a look at each of these areas in detail below.Finding the right college faculty is the first step in this process. In order to find the faculty you'll need to be sure that you have a broad range of options and you are aware of every major and specialization that a college has. It's also important to remember that the best colleges will only provide faculty to accredited schools, so you should check to make sure that you are reviewing colleges that are accredited as well.In terms of the faculty yo u are seeking, it's important to know which colleges are the best, because this can vary widely from college to college. It's important to remember that colleges such as Barnard and Yale do not rank high in the USA Today Best Colleges list. Because of this, it is easy to get caught up in the hype surrounding the name brand colleges. However, it's possible to get an inside look at what's happening in a certain college, and how it's changing in the mid-level colleges. At the very least, you'll learn what type of professors are available. In this area, the Internet is an excellent resource for determining the cost of a particular college. In the essay sample we used, the website also gives you a list of other schools in the same program. The list will include: those with the most expensive tuition, the most affordable tuition, and the average tuition. This allows you to compare tuition costs between colleges and find a match between those costs and your budget.Another important aspect o f this process is the affordability of the course itself. Colleges use various approaches when it comes to pricing their courses. For example, some colleges charge students based on the term length. Other colleges may charge students a fixed rate for the course regardless of the term and number of terms it takes. It's important to remember that the instructors you choose will play a significant role in this part of the faculty evaluation. You want to choose instructors that will help you learn the material, but it's equally important to find teachers who are both knowledgeable and qualified in the material. It's often difficult to tell whether the instructor you're considering is qualified or knowledgeable, but if you do decide to interview them, it's essential to understand exactly what you are being asked to accomplish in a class.Students might also consider whether or not they would like to purchase some book or course material and just pay for it when they return the course. Many of the colleges that offer online programs actually sell the course materials and they will receive a percentage of the sales price as compensation. This is not only an effective method for professors to make a living off of their field, but many students prefer to purchase their own supplies for their course. In summary, the process of evaluating a college or university will involve a variety of factors and decisions. For example, students need to determine whether or not the faculty is competent and if they can gain knowledge through using the materials they purchase. Additionally, students need to decide how much they are willing to spend for their education and whether they are willing to pay full price or part-time.

Harris County essays

Harris County essays Harris County has a population of approximately 3.6 million residents. Its head of government is the Judge, who is elected by the population of the county. He presides over a Commissioner's Court of four elected officials who are elected by different precincts. This is the governing board of county (Page 11). The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) in question is for the fiscal year ending February 28, 2005. The general fund has two sets of budget figures presented, an adopted budget of, through which most revenues and expenditures pass, $1.310 billion and an adjusted budget of $2.134 billion (100). This difference was funded through the issuance of debt (33). The major initiatives of the county funded by this debt include flood control districts, toll road improvements, precinct road improvements, and repairs and improvements to county buildings (15). The flood control project involves buying real estate in a pre-disaster mitigation program (34). Harris county seems to be financially healthy. The net assets of the county exceed the liabilities of the county by $9.54 billion, at a time when many northern cities are near bankruptcy. The total assets of the county are approximately $15 billion (39). The majority of this is capital investments, which net of related debt account for 89% of the assets of the county. The government makes it a practice to reserve enough funds to pay the following year's debt service. In addition, the general fund has extra money as well. At the end of the fiscal year, unreserved fund balance for the General fund was $204,852,123, or 20% of total general fund expenditures and 21% of general fund revenues. In addition, the General fund had a reserved fund balance of $112,291,065. (24) Like most county governments, the major source of revenue is property taxes. Harris county's thriving real estate market has a great deal to do with the government's financial success. ...

Case management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Case management - Assignment Example Creating such an institution requires massive financial resources to build the physical structure and procure equipments. The second step is to have a team of various professionals to run the program (Master and Taniguchi, 2006). Nurses should be available to coordinate the program as they are well versed with the care of patients and the skills to make clinical decisions. There are instances when the institution requires advanced medical expertise and the nurses` skills might be limited. In such cases, another team of specialized professionals are hired in order to cater for specific disabilities faced by the children. An example in this case is a child with autism. A medical expert who specializes in autism will have to be hired. The other group of workers central to the program is social workers. This team will have to be hired to coordinate the social needs of the family, specifically the patient when they are out of the program. A team of educational providers ought to be put in place in order to teach the family all things pertaining to child disability. Acquiring the needed funds to kick start the case management program is one of the key milestones which should be solved. The initiators of the project can convince the government to extend financial aid to the program as it is mainly a social welfare initiative. This can be achieved by writing proposals of detailed case management program to government officials such as the governor and the senators. The case manager can apply for coverage under the umbrella of Medicaid and Medicare (Master and Taniguchi, 2006). Another approach is to use lobbyists to present the case to the government. Several economists on the other hand have insisted that the government should be spared the burden of business in order to maintain the ideals of capitalism. In that case, the proprietors of the case management program should invite the private sector players to invest in the project. They can

BUS503 - Org. Change and Transformation Mod 4 SLP Essay

BUS503 - Org. Change and Transformation Mod 4 SLP - Essay Example ices, structure and leadership of the organization, redesign of the upper management structure, improving the accountability of present leadership, full evaluation of external factors relating to staff going elsewhere after training, and becoming a learning institution with good knowledge management. These are not easy changes and the commitment to make such changes must come first (Banker & Alban, 1997), as the configuration of the organization is changed. This is an organization in trouble at this time and it is very possible that the Human processual approach will not help at this time due to the slow incremental scale of the change. This change needs to happen more rapidly. The technostructural approach will need to be used to approach the changes in accountability for the different jobs and the job descriptions. The structure of the organization must change, removing silos and building a team structure. Multi-faceted approaches include as many different groups as possible and the is the approach that will need to be used most often here. There are many departments in a hospital and they all depend on each other to provide quality patient care. It will be important to include each of these departments in the process of change or run the risk of on providing a change that does not completely blanket the institution (Caluwe & Vermaak, 2004). The large groups approach will need to work hand in hand with these multi-faceted groups. All of the symptomology noted in the original case study relate to such things as external environment, leadership, organizational culture and structure as well as management practices. The Burke- Litwin model best suits this case because it incorporates all of these variable. The suggested changes in this paper are designed from the needs shown in the original study and the ability of the Burke-Litwin model to deal with those. With those things in mind, the management structure must change, the senior team needs updated management

Nicolaus Copernicus :: Essays Papers

Nicolaus Copernicus The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were known as the Scientific Revolution. During these centuries, science was starting to answer many questions about the earth. Scientists all around the world were making their assumptions on how the universe worked. Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer that also had a theory. The Copernican Theory changed many views and had a great effect on society. Copernicus lived his life in Poland. When he was nineteen, he decided to study at the University of Cracow. At the university he was required to study grammar, rhetoric and logic, arithmetic, geometry, music and astrology or astronomy. Edward Rosen is the author of, Copernicus and the Scientific Revolution. He says, "The subjects offered during his years there are known form university records that are still preserved. The names of the professors who taught those courses are also known. But the students’ records are missing."1 The grades that he received in college are unknown. However, it is known that he did not stay long enough to earn a bachelor’s degree.2 After Copernicus left school he returned home to his uncle, Lucas Waczendrode, who was the bishop of Ermeland.3 His uncle suggested that he enter the canonry n Frauenburg. The canonry is a group of clergymen that belong to a cathedral or other church. Entering the canonry would give Copernicus a stable and secure income for the rest of his life. While he waited for an opening, his uncle sent him for training at the University of Bologna.4 While there he studied mathematics and Greek language for three and half years. He also became more familiar with astronomy. In 1501 Copernicus returned to Frauenburg where he became apart of the canonry. He left quickly and started to study in Italy at the University of Padua. There he studied law and medicine.5 After a lifetime of studying, he is said to have mastered the concepts of math, medicine, theology and astronomy.6 As Copernicus began to study astronomy more, he came to strongly disagree with the Ptolemaic system of astronomy. This system was based on the idea that the earth was fixed in the center and all the other heavenly bodies moved around it. Astronomers believed that the earth was in the center because it was heavy. Copernicus saw many problems associated with this system of astronomy. For example, sometimes the planets appeared to be going in the opposite direction and the brightness of the planets would tend to change as well.
